Thank you to all of you who so generously donated to our adopted family this year! We recieved an outpouring of love and generosity! It was really one of the best parts of the holiday for us! To watch hearts open, and compassion pour out of others was a blessing to witness! Thanks to all of you, our family had a wonderful Christmas filled with gifts, clothing, and food! I want to share the words of our adopted mom! God bless you all and thank you again for all you have done!

Dear Friends,
I had the most amazing thing happen to my family this Christmas and you were apart of it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Many of my concerns and desires about how I could even begin to provide a Christmas for my family were met through so many people this year. Through one person so many great things happened! You know it only takes one person to start a chain of anything. The chain of love that surrounded me and my children began with Stephanie. Thank you dear one for hearing the need and not just walking by. We spend too much time just not noticing the pain and hurt in others. Often we don’t know what to do, what I have learned this Christmas is that all you have to do is just be blessed to be a blessing to someone else. I will never forget this Christmas. I feel like I finally had a hand up not a hand out, an opportunity to be positioned back up on solid ground! All of your hands and hearts helped me up, restored my hope, and propelled me forward. A thank you just isn’t enough for what I have experienced this Christmas!!!
I am often the one who gives not the receiver of such an outpouring. I have battled illness nearly all year and many days not even able to get out of bed. God heard my prayers, I cry knowing how he has provided through your giving. I was thinking and praying for all of you on Christmas morning watching the gifts being opened and seeing my sweet boys light up. I will continue to think of you as I see my pantry full of food, and all the basics I need to run my household, gift cards for the months to come, be able to drive my van, wear the beautiful gifts given, snuggle up in my soft new blanket, and as I look in the mirror to see a face with pretty makeup and dynamite hair!! Noticing the smile back on my face, not just the mask I put on to keep it all together. That smile that encourages yourself to not to give up, the one that breathes life into your spirit. Yep, that one!!
You all didn’t just adopt my family for Christmas you performed an intervention into my world and as a result I have changed. I am more confident than ever that I will get better and return to work! Thank you for giving to an unknown family in need for Christmas

Why would you pay for a treatment that causes sensitivity and takes 2 weeks to accomplish, when you can have the same treatment done in minutes with no sensitivty at the same price. We are currently offering treatments at Revue Salon & Spa located in Zona Rosa.

The treatment time is approximately 20 minutes, with the whitening treatment under lamp being 15 minutes. You can see anywhere between 3-6 shades during one treatment based on the current shade of your teeth. A full treatment is 4 visits to a facility under the lamp. We suggest taking a week between visits to allow time for your teeth to adjust to the correct levels before another treatment. A full treatment should lead to 8-10 shades.

The Christmas Season is the Season for giving! The Cast of Revue would like to invite you to join us in adopting a family and sharing in the giving spirit! With any donation for our adoptive family, you will receive a 10% discount on your next service here at Revue. What a great feeling to help out a family in need and be rewarded with our discount!

The family we have chosen is a family of four. A single Mom, and three boys ages 13, 8 and 5. Mom is out of work and has a condition that is deteriorating her female parts. The medication she needs to help her is $600.00 per month. One of the side effects is that her hair will fall out.
The basic home needs are, toiletries, paper goods, dove unscented soap,All-Free and Clear laundry soap (skin allergies in family), Dish soap, cleaning supplies for the home, shampoo, conditioner.
The basic clothing needs are Sweatpants and jeans for the boys (sizes men's Large, boys XL and boys small 7/8). Shorts sleeve shirts size men's large, long sleeve shirts in boys XL and small, and 7/8. Hats and gloves. All three boys need new shoes. Size 11 1/2 in men's (basket ball tennies), size 6 and size 1 in kids.
The Santa lists consist of PS 3 games, basketball shorts in size L men's, basketball, mighty beans, Mega mind toys, Phenius and ferb toys, master Tall Tales cars/DVD, Wii games (for 5 year old), Bakgan toys, Toy Story 3 toys/DVD.
The "dream" list... an ipod touch for the 13 year old, and a nintendo DS for the little boys.

Other needs this family has are gas cards, gift cards to grocery store for meat, money to pay bills, oil change and car repair. Gently used clothing items are appreciated as well.

Mom did not put anything on her list, but I am sure would appreciate getting something. Gift certificates to Lane Bryant or any Women's clothing store would be great.

We hope that you can give. this Northland family is truly in need and needs the support of their community.

Revue Salon & Spa is very pleased to announce their participation in the Kc Fringe Festival Fashion Show. The fashion show is an incredible 2 night event, July 30 and 31st! Show starts at 9pm at the Arts Tech building located at 15th and Holmes. Revue Salon will be showcasing their hair and make-up talents on Saturday night July 31!! In addition to the entire staff of Revue, we have also enlisted the help of 4 assistants from Paul Mitchell The School - Overland Park, also featuring Lora Wade Artistry, Shannon Layton from Shannon's Place, Make-up artist Allie Bolz, and Hair Stylist Ryan Joy. This is going to be an amazing show we would love to have you come out and show your support! Show starts at 9pm!!

This is the sixth year of the KC Fringe Festival, the festival is from July 23rd to August 1st. Bringing you 82 artists, 18 venues and 349 performances from our collection of local, regional, national and international performers. As always, you will need a button for every event at the festival. Buttons are available for $5 which help fund KC Fringe Festival, but only one button needs to be purchased per person. Ticket prices vary from $5-10 which is split between artists and their venues. We are happy to announce that Charlie Podrebarac has made this year’s festival’s art. May 7th 2010 Revue Salon & Spa participated in an incredible night of fashion and giving back to the community! 20 local designers restyled clothes from Goodwill Industries to put on a fabulous fashion show to benefit Friends of JCDS! This event at the Overland Park Sharaton was full of local celebrities and was so much fun to be a part of! Friends of JCDS, is a non-profit charity, has been helping to make wishes reality for thousands of our friends and neighbors who face daily challenges and adversity. JCDS stands for “Johnson County Developmental Supports,” an agency of Johnson County government that provides community-based programs and supports for people with developmental disabilities in Johnson County, Kansas. What an incredible ride this has been! This remarkable journey began with an idea to create a Salon/Spa experience that was offering something different from any other salon. Our dream is to have a business that offers excellent quality at an affordable cost. and our vision statement is that all people deserve to feel special and beautiful no matter where you come from, everybody deserves a little Hollywood glamour!

The process of lease negotiations and business planning started in January of 2009 and construction on Revue began in April of 2009 and we never felt sooo excited and terrified at the same time! Revue loves great art and we knew we wanted the salon to embrace the arts and honor those amazing artists that people still admire to this day! Blending classic beauty with a modern flair has always been our approach to hair and it is something we look for in all the cast members at Revue. The idea is for the stylists to feel like they are artists and want them to treat each client as though it is their masterpiece.

The cast members of Revue has evolved and changed since the first day we opened! We will never forget the stylist who came in on day 1 and stayed for an hour.... We have deep admiration and appreciation to all Revue Alumni stylists/estheticians/salon co-ordinators who have taken this journey with us and to stylists who have recently joined the team. This has been an incredible learning experience, running a salon is not an easy task and has been one of the greatest challenges we have ever done. We LOVE it and we know that the best is yet to come! We wanted to take the oppurtunity to extend a very warm "thank you" to those people who have helped us get to where we are now! Just to prepare you....We have prepared a huge list of gratitude LOL! We feel really excited about Revue's growth and flourishing as a company. We did not do it alone and we have to send out some love! Revue had a fantastic 1st year and we are in it to win it in Year 2! are collaborating to create one of the most extravagant fashion collections our city has ever seen! We are very excited to have been invited to participate in this amazing event.

The Tenth Anniversary Celebration of the West 18th Street Fashion Show, A Decadent Summer, will be held at dusk on Saturday, June 12th. The show takes place outdoors on West 18th Street in Kansas City, between the cross-streets of Wyandotte and Baltimore.

As it is their 10th anniversary, They are planning a more elaborate, over-the-top affair than ever! The show will feature eighteen collections from a select group of local and national designers.

Also coming up Revue has some really exciting projects in the works that we are very excited about in the Spring and Summer....unfortunately I can't speak on them too much just yet we don't want to jinx anything! =)

"My hair is so darn dry!" here is some great advice....

Revue Stylist and esthetician Gretchen Blanford offers up some great advice on what you can do to help combat dry hair.

Normally, the cells in each strand of hair line up in straight rows like the shingles on a roof. However if tiny sections of your hair's outer cell layer have been chipped or stripped away by harsh chemicals or intense heat, excessive dry weather and/or serious cold temperatures it exposes the inner layers of the hair shaft, and the hair loses moisture. Also, damaged and dry hair doesn't reflect light the way that healthy, smooth hair does, so dry hair looks dull and lifeless.

Solution? Of course it starts with your shampoo and conditioner. Proper shampooing is the first step to a healthy scalp and manageable hair, but don't use a conditioning shampoo! Two-in-one products that combine shampoo and conditioner really can't do a good job of either cleansing or conditioning. Instead, use a gentle shampoo to cleanse, then follow with a conditioner specifically geared for dry hair every time you shampoo. Don't worry about shampooing too often. Today's gentle shampoos are designed for frequent use.

Deep-condition regularly. To fill nicks and chips in the hair's damaged outer layer and restore shine, you must deep-condition. Depending on the condition of your hair, once a week or once every few weeks is all that's needed for a deep condition regime. Consisting of various combinations of natural and synthetic ingredients (including proteins, polymers, or other additives), deep conditioners don't "feed" your hair; they just fill in defects and coat the hair shaft, resulting in a smooth, flat surface that will reflect light and restore shine to your hair. For maximum effectiveness, you should apply a deep conditioner before you shampoo. Gently work the conditioner into your hair with your fingertips, and allow it to be absorbed for a few minutes. Then shampoo, and follow with your regular conditioner.

Of course the best products are those sold from a salon professional. The major difference is the lack of dangerous cheap chemicals and unnecessary fillers and additives. If your shampoo is 15 cents an oz from the grocery store imagine how cheap the ingredients were in there raw form? And no it is not always true the more expensive the better. However quality products and ingredients come at a price. If you would like to jumpstart your hair therapy, go see your stylist for a rejuvenation treatment. The results are amazing and you will have much better manageability at home. It consists of a Chelating shampoo, and protein treatment to strengthen hair from inside. Followed by a deep conditioning with a lovely scalp massage and then usually processed under an ionizing dryer to drive in the hydration to the fullest extent. Followed by a professional blow out style it’s a must to any winter rescue!

The results usually last longer due to professional equipment and products, however you can maintain the feel with the personally recommended treatments to take home with you and make a part of your routine.

Revue esthetician Gretchen Blanford offers up some excellent information regarding dry winter skin....
Winter Skin is all about the moisturizers because your skin gets dried out and flaky. Many refer to this condition as "Winter Itch". So why does this occur?

Cold temperatures,
lack of moisture in the air and humidity,
harsh dry winds,
inside forced air heating,

all combine to deplete the natural lipid layer on the skin that provides a moisture barrier and keeps skin from over drying. The lack of Vitamin D from direct sunlight also slows the production of melanin and decreases the amount of lubrication and moisture each cell carries through natural daily rejuvenation. Vitamin K is also very important to act as the bus driver to deliver moisture deep into the layers of the skin. The depletion of vitamin K is also a direct result of the body working harder to maintain internal core temperature when you are exposed to outside coldness, and thus the effects are used up by your internal organs and other "more important" parts of the body. The skin, hair, nails...all get a bit left out. However with a few tips and some extra effort you can have the beautiful dewy skin that is soft and moist even in harsh winter!

LUKE WARM not HOT
It is so very tempting on these cold days to take that super hot shower, however you are doing more harm than good. Hot water destroys skins moisture and causes MORE DRY SKIN. The best solution is to use luke warm water, or if you simply cannot...keep showers very short and minimum only once a day. Replace a steam bath at the gym in place of the hot tub during winter. The sauna will detoxify your skin and allow for better penetration of your topical moisturizers. Hot tubs are murder on dry skin combining hot temperatures with harsh chemicals...stay away if you can bare it! The luke warm rule also applies to washing your face at night to remove dirt and make-up. Also a finish with a splash of cold water will restore the acid mantle to the skin and better prepare it for the rest of your skin care routine.

LOTION, my best friend!
ALWAYS moisturize your skin immediately after showering, washing hands, or anytime when you have cleansed. Keep bottles of your favorite hydrating products right next to the soap on the counter so you are reminded to replace the moisture lost from cleansing. Mini bottles in your purse, gym locker, car, desk at work, a frequently visited cabinet and everywhere in between will certainly help get you in the habit!

You may be wondering what the best moisturizer to use is? This is a tricky question as everyone is partial to one thing or another. However for those of you with very sensitive skin it can be tricky to find something that you can use often that does not irritate your skin. I have a few recipes that are easy to make in your own kitchen!
olive oil is the best form of moisturizer to the body. Buy your favorite brand and mix it with an essential oil of your choice. (lavender and chamomile are very soothing to sensitive skin) in a pretty glass bottle or container of your choice. Glide on after showers or even use as a shaving lotion the results are amazing! The natural lipids are small enough to penetrate the epidermis and deeply hydrate the skin.
Not feeling crafty? That's ok.. research the best vitamin E and C lotions, that are perfume free and hypoallergenic. Guaranteed to have the least problematic conclusions for sensitive skin.

EXFOLIATE WEEKLY OR BI WEEKLY
Sloughing off dead skin cells is super important to repairing dry skin. THe topical moisture cannot penetrate effectively through layers of dry dead stuff. What does get through can end up suffocating your pores causing breakouts and irritation. For the body my favorite exfoliates are Olive oil, lavender, rock salt, and raw sugar. Makes the most amazing body scrub exfoliate. Best to apply to dry skin, so use your body cleanser first and then dry your skin. Apply scrub all over massaging in for 5 minutes. Rinse lightly with cool water in the shower. Pat dry. Skin will be soft smooth and hydrated all day!
For the face, treat your self to an oxygen facial for deep hydrating treatment. and the best levels of exfoliation. Technicians use specialized currents and products to remove dead skin cells and drive in moisture super deeply to the skin. The results are incredible and are then maintainable at home. Doing this once a month during the winter months will enhance your skin to the most amazing levels of health imaginable!

AVOID DRYING SOAPS
Oil free cream cleansers rinsed lightly or cold creams that do not require rinsing are amazing for dry skin. Skip your ultra soapy foaming cleansers, and reach for the creamy ones. Again fragrance free and hypoallergenic are of course the best. What about eye make-up? Baby shampoo is a great moisture based product that is incredible for removing eye make-up. Place some in your favorite glass bottle and apply to the eyes only massage away make-up with ease and rinse thoroughly. Use your cream cleanser on the rest of your face and neck. The oil free formula will prevent clogging of the pores but the moisturizing formula will reduce the loss of hydration that the cleansing process destroys. If you still feel that after washing tightness, try making some chamomile tea to splash with after cleansing instead of tap water. The result is very soothing and restores the proper PH to Hydrate resistant skin.

INVEST IN A HUMIDIFIER
Anytime you can be in a moist air environment its much better for your entire body as a whole. Just running one at night while you sleep is enough to wake up to much happier skin! Your skin needs about 30% humidity in the air in order to stay properly moisturized...keep that in mind when you look at the weather report!

DONT FORGET HANDS FEET AND LIPS!

Sleeping in cotton breathable socks over your favorite lotion does wonders for the feet! Hands are the most harshly affected and need constant attention to keep hydrated. Always wear gloves on super cold days and layer your moisturizer on underneath! Really want a treat? Try a paraffin Dip at your salon! The deeply moisturizing hot wax for hands and feet is incredible and deeply penetrates the skin for amazing moisture!
Lips should be exfoliated and covered nightly in your favorite lip balm! NO GLOSS, just plain chap-stick or balm is best. Exfoliate with the olive oil sugar scrub or take some vaseline and a tooth brush and rub in a circular motion. Removes dead skin cells and leaves lips soft and supple.

INTERNAL CARE
As always your water intake is important but doesn't show up in our skin as much as you may have been told. The water is essential to the internal care of our body. If you do not take in enough your body will suck moisture from anywhere it can get it. INCLUDING THE SKIN! Ever have those days where your make up disappears? Sucked in my your skin like a vacuum! At lease 8 9oz glasses of water daily!
Remember the vitamin D and K I spoke about? SUPPLEMENT! Take extra of both to add a boost to the engines driving around all the water in your body! Guaranteed to deliver better results and reduce bruising in the skin from low moisture content.
